Lace up your boots and hike over to Grand Canaria's most famous landmark, Roque Nublo – "cloudy rock" – which thrusts skywards at a height of 80 meters (262 ft) tall and is one of the highest points on the island. It rises out of the Caldera de Tejeda, a giant volcanic crater approx. 20 km (13 miles) in diameter and is the remainder of the funnel of the main volcano on the island. In its shadow is a smaller spire known as El Fraile – "the Friar" – a rock in the shape of a Monk praying down. One of the most famous attractions on the island, the hike to the Roque takes about ½ hour; but if you you're brave of heart – and have the skills – scale its summit for the ultimate views!
