Mount Kenya is the second highest peak in Africa at 5,199 meters (17,057 ft), surrounded by small glaciers and forested slopes, containing several endemic species. The local Kikuyu people regard it as the realm of their god Ngai and call the mountain "Kirinyaga", or "place of light". While the summit is a difficult technical climb, the lesser peak of Point Lenana at 4,985 meters (16,355 ft) can be reached by any fit trekker and usually takes 3-5 days. The region surrounding the mountain encompasses Mount Kenya National Park, which offers a host of activities and a great place to see wildlife. It's a popular destination and hired tour guides can handle everything from transport, to food and accommodation, to various attractions. With so much to offer, it's a must-see destination.
