Spend a day seeing 5,000 years of recorded history at Libya's Jamahiriya Museum. Located within Tripoli's Red Castle Frotress, the museum has been recognized by UNESCO for its key role in preserving Libyan culture. This is definitely the place for anyone interested in history and you get a fairly accurate account - even of some of the country's less than savory activities during the latter part of the twentieth century under the Gaddafi regime. When you've absorbed enough, take a short walk to nearby medina Ghadema for a spicy dose of Libyan cuisine.
