South Africa's Robben Island was named "seal island" by the Dutch and was also home to a leper colony; but it is much more famous as a prison. Imagine what it must have been like for Nelson Mandela, Jacob Zuma and other political prisoners of the apartheid era to be imprisoned on this harsh rock? Located off the coast of Cape Town, this was literally the end of the line for many of these men. Today, the prison has been closed and is a World Heritage Site and museum. Take the time to take a tour and be humbled by the terrible prison that many endured as the price of freedom.
