Scale the modest heights of the Sudan's Jebal Barkal, a flat-topped plateau that once formed an important landmark on the African-Arabian trade route. The mountain, along with the historic city of Napata, are both UNESCO-listed and include a network of palaces and temples that once formed the seat of power for the southern-most reaches of the Egyptian empire. But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the site are the pyramids that mark the resting place of the various kings and queens who ruled what has become known as the Nubia. While they may not be on the scale of their Egyptian counterparts, you could very well have the entire place to yourself to explore to your heart's desire!
