Congo-Brazzaville Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 32%, Congo-Brazzaville (Republic of Congo) is coming back from the verge of places to avoid in Central Africa. After years - generations in fact - of strife, this amazing country, that in many ways encompasses everything that is truly Africa, has placed itself back onto the world stage for all to see. There is perhaps no better way to witness what makes this place tick then taking a leisurely cruise down the mighty Congo River, which winds its way through the continent's largest rainforest and provided the backdrop for Edgar Rice Burroughs' immortal Tarzan saga. Sticking with the literary theme, this country is also home to Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Africa's largest chimpanzees sanctuary, where over 150 orphaned "Cheetahs" (remember Tarzan's chimpanzee sidekick?) are now protected from the ravishes of the short-sighted bush meat industry. A visit to the Republic of Congo will no doubt burn an indelible imprint on your mind and will probably be the place you think of first when your friends back home ask you what Africa is really like.
