Nigeria Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 38%, Nigeria has a shocking image problem - period. In recent times there is no place more synonymous with "scams" than here and, to a degree, this less than savory reputation is well deserved. But as with any place, there is always the other side of the coin and, in the case of Nigeria, that other side represents the 99% of people who want you to love their country and enjoy your visit. Nigeria has an amazingly vibrant culture that is well represented by the bronze and ivory workshops in Benin City, where you can witness traditional artisans form works of art before your very eyes. Another excellent way to get in touch with the real Nigeria is with a visit to the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, one of the last remaining "sacred forests", which in antiquity used to be an integral part of cities in the region. But no trip to Nigeria could ever be called complete without visiting one of the primate reserves located outside the city of Calabar, where both drill monkeys and chimpanzee populations are being nurtured back from the brink in one of the most successful conservation programs in the world. While Nigeria may have a P.R. problem in the eyes of many, the only way to really know the truth is to visit this country and see for yourself.
