Joseph Stalin Museum
No trip to Gori would be complete without a visit to the Joseph Stalin Museum, a site dedicated to Georgia's most famous – and notorious – son. Without a doubt Stalin was perhaps one of the greatest tyrants of the 20th century, but a visit here may give you an intriguing view of his life. The museum has three sections, all located in the town's central square. You are able to wander the grounds – which are dotted with statues of Stalin – and see the humble house where he was born. There is also his personal railway carriage, a green armor-plated Pullman that weighs over 80 tons! The main focus of the complex is the museum itself, which is dived into six halls and contains many personal items belonging to Stalin. While some may consider it as a shrine to him, it does afford a view into the "dark side" of this controversial figure. It's for you to visit and judge for yourself.
