Gir Forest National Park
Go on safari through Gujrat, India's Gir Forest National Park (Sasan Gir) in search of the last of a breed - the Asiatic Lion. This protected reserve, located in a remote section of Western India, is the last remaining habitat of a species that once lived across the breadth of Asia. The Gir also contains a veritable cornucopia of flora and fauna. The number and variety of plants, wildlife and birds that you come across in the forest is remarkable. There are various tours available for both bird and wildlife, and the Gir Birding Lodge is located near the entrance to the sanctuary. Gir is one of those special places that provides a much more intimate experience than you will find in the enormous game reserves of Africa and is a must see for any PlanetHopper! visiting India.
