See the many changing faces of Buddha with a visit to Buddha Park, which is also known as Xieng Khuan and is located just outside of Vietiane, Laos. The collection of statues here is truly amazing and range from a massive reclining Buddha that reaches some 120 meters (~ 390 ft) in length, to sculptures of gods, animals, and demons. The ornate statues are made of concrete and sometimes bizarre in design. Though they appear to be centuries old, they are not. The park was only started in 1958 by Luang Pu – Venerable Grandfather – a priest and shaman who integrated Buddhism and Hinduism. It's a great place to see firsthand just how important the people of Laos embrace their faith as, at any given time, the park can be overrun with school children, monks, beggars and, of course, PlanetHoppers!
