Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary
Trek through the dense rainforest of Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary in search of one of mankind's closest relatives, the Bornean Orangutan. Located in one of the oldest rainforests in the world - older even than the Amazon - this unique sanctuary provides one of the last remaining homes for these timid primates, who have been nearly wiped out by man's relentless grab for land and resources. The center rescues orphaned baby orangutans from logging sites, plantations, and illegal hunting. PlanetHoppers! can watch as orphaned orangutans are trained to survive in the wild again and later released back to their natural habitat. All you need to do is stare into their deep brown eyes for an instant to understand how special these creatures are and how important it is for us to protect their future.
