Khyber Pass by Train
Make the train journey along the mountainous Khyber Pass, which links Pakistan and Afghanistan via the Hindu Kush range. This treacherous corridor through the mountains was once an important part of the ancient Silk Road and then in later times was just as vital to a generation of PlanetHoppers! on their journey along the "Hippy Trail". Mentioned in the Bible as "Pesh Habor", it is one of the oldest known passes in the world. Today, the pass still provides the opportunity to view a landscape that is as beautiful as it is potentially dangerous due to the region's less than stable political situation. Notables who have passed through this region include, Cyrus the Great, Alexander the Great, Shah Jahan, Genghis Khan and a host of others. While caution is advised to visit the Khyber Pass, intrepid PlanetHoppers! can take the Khyber Pass Railway from Peshawar and follow the same path as the "Greats".
