Hit the rails for one of the world's classic train journeys on Russia's Trans-Siberian Railway. Running east from Moscow into the remote Siberian wilderness, all the way to Vladivostok in the Sea of Japan, it is the longest railway in the world at 9,289 kilometers (~ 5,772 miles) and crosses 1/3 of the globe! Branches of the line can also take you to Mongolia, North Korea and China, with numerous stops along the way. There are few journeys that engender such a feeling of adventure and excitement as this classic line that was first sanctioned by Tsar Nicholas II at the end of his own sojourn around the world in 1891. A great part of the ride is simply sitting back and watching the varied lands go by. It's just perfect for those who travel for the pleasure of the journey, because getting there is half the fun!
