Singapore Chinese New Year
Join in the revelry of Singapore's version of the Chinese New Year celebration, the most eagerly anticipated festival of the year. With a population that is predominately Chinese in origin, this is by far the preeminent gala on the city's calendar. The options are endless during this festival with a variety of traditional parades, street performers, amazing food and decorations that transform this city state into a wonderland. During this time, the streets city come alive with the sounds of traditional music, the sights of hanging red lanterns and, of course, the delicious smells of food wafting from countless vendors. Make sure to visit Kreta Ayer Square during the Chinatown Street Light Up ceremony, where you can see colorful performances from female dance troupes armed with patterned umbrellas, to audacious fire eaters, and the colorful lion dancers. All of the partying may exhaust you, but make sure to hang in till midnight to watch the fabulous fireworks!
