East Timor Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 46%, East Timor is one of the world's newest independent countries, which up until recently hadn't really had much opportunity to put itself out there as a potential travel destination. This is slowly beginning to change - although the tourist infrastructure still isn't much to call home about. However, to many this will automatically sound the alarm on a place that is still in a relatively virgin, untouched state, where you're likely to not run into many other PlanetHoppers! If you're looking for the unspoilt, then you literally have an entire coastline of beaches to satisfy you, with just a short trip from the capital Dili. This holds true for the country's many dive sites, including those around Atauro Island and the incredible K41, where you'll encounter an amazing reef which drops off into the abyss. But even though you may initially come to East Timor to get away from others, do make the effort to learn about the fascinating country, and perhaps the best way to do this is with a visit to the Resistance Museum, where you can learn some of the history related to the Timor's long struggle for independence. The PlanetHop! crystal ball sings out again - this place is destined to be amongst the most popular travel destinations in the not too far distant future - guaranteed!
