Georgia Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 44%, Georgia is a rugged country dominated by the towering mountains of the Greater Caucasus Range to the north and extensive forests that cover nearly half of the entire country. Such a landscape as this offers an amazing playground for the outdoor enthusiast. For those of you who enjoy trekking, Borjomi National Park and Lagodekhi Strict Nature Reserve will take you through varied landscapes, from alpine, to forest, to marshland. For the really adventurous, there's the Voronya Cave, where you can explore part of the world's deepest cave, extending to a depth of over 2,000 meters (~ 6500 ft) into the bowels of the earth. Georgia also offers several historical and cultural destinations that include the Vardzia Cave Dwellings, a 12th century monastery carved directly out of the rock cliffside, and the Svanetian Towers, a fortress built to defend the region from incursion by foreign invaders from the north. Georgia offers both physically and mentally stimulating destinations. Take a journey into the depths of the earth and then later nourish the mind by exploring a cultural site – or do the reverse. Either way, you are guaranteed to be satisfied.
