Laos Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 52%, Laos is one of the world's best travel destinations if you like the idea of meandering down a seemingly endless river. The mighty Mekong River is the backbone of this relatively bucolic country, where no one ever really seems to be in much of a hurry. This is borne out by the fact that a slow boat down the Mekong is one of the world's truly classic journeys. Most start the trip from the Thai border and take a couple of days to travel south to the French Colonial city of Luang Prabang. It's a great way to see the countryside and life along the river. Arriving at Luang Prabang - a UNESCO-listed city – you will encounter a blend of traditional Laos culture, with just a touch of French chic. When you're ready to move on, all you have to do is hop another boat and continue your journey southward. This will take you further into a land where Buddha pervades every aspect of life, from the Pak Ou Caves, where you'll find thousands of statues on display, to the aptly named Buddha Park, where you'll find a massive reclining Buddha over a hundred meters long. In some ways, Laos is like a Shangri-La of travel destinations. The pathway is always there; and it's just up to you to hop aboard and explore it.
