Philippines Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 56%, the Philippines tend not to get quite the respect, or number of PlanetHoppers! that it should. With its strong Spanish roots - heralded by the arrival of Magellan in the 16th century - in some ways the Philippines are more reminiscent of Central America than Southeast Asia, with destinations such as Mayon Volcano - known for its perfectly symmetrical cone - and Fort Santiago, built by the invading Conquistadors in the 1800's. But don't make the mistake of thinking they are some type of misplaced stepchildren, where in fact the Philippines are very much part of Southeast Asia, with destinations such as the UNESCO-listed Banaue Rice Terraces, which have been constructed over the past 2,000 years and passed down from generation to generation. Then there are the beaches - miles and miles and miles of beaches that include Paradise Island and Boracay Island - scattered throughout this archipelago of over 7,000 islands. In summary, the Philippines are a land of diversity and exceptional beauty, two things that are like air and water to all PlanetHoppers!
