South Korea Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 64%, South Korea is quickly becoming one of Asia's newest "hotspot" destinations. For many years South Korea has lived in a peculiar limbo due to the fact that the country is still technically at war with it neighbor to the north – North Korea. That fact has almost become an afterthought as the South has marched forward at a headlong pace and rapidly modernized. Like its counterpart Tokyo, Seoul is a Technicolor city with neon lights everywhere and a public that seems to worship electronic gods. It has the fastest broadband speeds on the planet, cutting edge gadgets galore, and a Mecca for video game enthusiasts. The modern is still balanced out by a country with deep cultural roots. South Korea has a range of cultural sites that are the equal of anything in Asia, including the UNESCO-listed Jongmyo Shrine, the Hwaseong Fortress, and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty. There are also a number of world class outdoor destinations such as the Jeju Volcanic Island, where you can trek a dormant volcano, swim in a crater lake, and visit a nature reserve that covers much of the island's interior. South Korea is a perfect example of a country that has moved beyond war, picked itself up, and established itself as a definite place to see. Not to be missed by PlanetHoppers!
