Old Town Havana
Let yourself become part of the Latin beat of Old Town Havana (Habana Vieja), a World Heritage Site that represents the heart and soul of Cuba. Even though isolated from the rest of the world for much of the past 50 years, the open plazas and Spanish architecture retain a universal appeal. And without a doubt, the caravan of ancient vehicles, from Ladas, to Studebakers and '56 Chevy's that somehow manage to still chug along, should amuse you. Some the major points of interest include Parque Central, the Malecón, Plaza de la Cathedral, and Plaza de Armas, which now shine after undergoing restoration – though other parts of the quarter are full of sagging walls and collapsed balconies. Still each section - whether old or new - has its own distinct flavor. It doesn't matter if you've come for the architecture, the Jazz, or even the cigars, Habana Vieja will welcome you and, before you know it, you'll be swaying with everyone else to the cool beat of smoky jazz, or the sultry sounds of samba. Any way you look at it, once you're hooked, you might just forget about "Fidel" and decide to stay...
