Float in a dream world in the waters of Phosphorescent Bay (Bahía Fosforescente) in Vieques, Puerto Rico, where microscopic organisms give off an eerie illumination when disturbed. This unique bay contains billions of single-celled bioluminescent dinoflagellates that are half animal, half-plant and emit a flash of bluish light when agitated. If it rains, the whole bay will light up, spectacularly glowing green, pink and blue as the drops hit the water. Vieques is one of two areas in Puerto Rico that has this remarkable nighttime attraction. The other is in La Parguera. The best way to enjoy the experience is to book a nighttime snorkeling trip, where you get the most dramatic effect. Pulsing to an unfathomable rhythm, it's almost as if the organisms are trying to communicate with you. Perhaps ET is closer than you think and lives in the Caribbean?
