Bring your earplugs, along with your towel, for a day of sun at Sint Maarten's Maho Beach, perhaps the only beach in the entire world where you can literally wave - and be seen - by passengers on jumbo jets as they whiz by right over your head. Located on the Dutch side of the island of Saint Martin, the beach lies directly in the flight path of Princess Juliana International Airport. Due to its short runway, planes need to approach at a minimal altitude - as low as 10 meters (~ 33 ft) above the ground - in order to land safely, giving beachgoers an up-close-and personal view of a jet's underbelly. To say that being on the beach during a landing is a bit bizarre would be something of an understatement as, depending on the type of plane arriving, you can literally be blown off your feet from the jet blast into the waters of bay! But don't fret too much as most of the local bars situated along the beach post the flight arrival schedule, so you can retreat to the relative safety of their confines and knock back a cold one. What more can be said other than this is just one of those crazy travel experiences that you're guaranteed to still be talking about for years to come...
