Bahamas Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 64%, the Bahamas has for generations been included among the most popular Caribbean destinations as it offers everything from pristine beaches, endless water sports, to activities for kids and adults - and even a smattering of history to break things up a bit. Topping the list are, of course, the innumerable beaches and cays. There are literally dozens of places to enjoy the white sand and warm Caribbean waters, including Xanadu Beach (Grand Bahama Island), Cable Beach (New Providence Island) and Pink Sand Beach (Eleuthera). The list of cays include Castaway Cay, Cooco Cay (Berry Islands), Elbow Cay (Great Abaco Island), and Peterson Cay (Freeport), which is the smallest national park in the Bahamas and surround by beautiful beaches and coral reefs. A word of advice about the beaches is that the further out you go from Grand Bahama and Paradise Islands, the more hassle free and relaxing your experience will be. But for those PlanetHoppers! looking for more than just beach time, this is where the Bahamas really comes to the forefront. It has a range of interesting museums that include the Pirates of Nassau Museum, where the entire family can learn about the rich history of the buccaneers who scoured the region in search of easy plunder. Or perhaps the children are driving you mad and you need something to occupy them for an afternoon? Aquaventure Water Park will surely help and hopefully exhaust them enough for an early night. Later, if you're feeling really adventurous, you can visit Lucayan National Park, which is home to the longest underwater cave system in the world - the perfect place to wade in waters that plunge down to dark, unknown depths. Or visit Predator Lagoon, which breeds and preserves the ocean's most deadly predators, including the black-nosed shark. While you're at it, make sure to dive or snorkel in Thunderball Grotto, a fantastic underwater cave used in the filming of two James Bond films. Summed up, the Bahamas has it all.
