British Virgin Islands Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 52%, the British Virgin Islands (BVI) is a land where the yacht is king, with dozens of islands scattered about in relative close proximity and a steady breeze that always seems to pick up just when needed. While the islands play host to a steady stream of sailors, during the annual Spring Regatta, these numbers swell to truly epic proportions. But even this massive influx has an upside as it provides everyone who doesn't have their own boat with the potential to catch a lift to one of the islands. Take in Smuggler's Cove on Tortola, a great snorkeling spot, or Norman Island Caves, which may have buried treasure and is full extraordinary red sponge and orange cup coral. Take a dive off of Salt Island and explore the RMS Rhone shipwreck, 300 feet long and now home to a spectacular artificial reef. No doubt, the BVI is a haven for seaborne activities, but that only tells half the story, as it also has more than enough to satisfy land lovers. Along the shores of Virgin Gorda are the Baths, a network of giant submerged boulders with tidal pools and grottos that are simply amazing and one of the most unique places to take a swim. On the beaches of Tortola, locals and PlanetHoppers! come together for the fun-filled Full Moon Parties, considered the "wildest time of the month", when everything is possible. Virgin Gorda Peak offers breathtaking panoramas. Walk between the royal palms at J.R. O'Neal Botanic Gardens, a Garden of Eden for flowers and plants. Surely, no visit to BVI would be complete without a visit to the historic Callwood Distillery, where you can pick up a few bottles of rum – cheap!
