Guadeloupe Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 50%, Guadeloupe is a surprisingly modern place, where the refined sound of the French language melds perfectly with a laidback Caribbean vibe that has made this tropical heaven quite popular with many PlanetHoppers! This group of islands offers an amazing range of top-notch beaches and natural wonders that are guaranteed to make you wonder why this place isn't better known. Parc National, which covers a full 10th of Guadalupe, showcases many of the island's greatest sites. Brooding at the top of list is La Grande Soufrière, one of the region's highest and most active volcanos. It's a fantastic place to trek literally to the top of the island to gain unobstructed views for miles around. Along your route, there is the breathtaking triple waterfall Chutes de Cabret. Another option to see the "Parc" is to take a scenic drive through the mountains on the Route de la Traverse, which will take you past the Cascade aux Ecrevisses (the crayfish fall), where a dip into the plunge pool is almost mandatory. Other easily accessible points along your route will include glorious botanical gardens, banana and sugarcane plantations, and rum distilleries that cannot be resisted. Make your way down to the coast to the Reserve Cousteau and take a glass-bottom boat tour, or dip into the waters to snorkel or scuba dive to see some amazing marine life. With all of these marvelous activities on offer, even the most adventurous PlanetHopper will need some R&R and Guadeloupe has the perfect remedy in the form of a long line of white sand beaches that include Arawak, Creole, and Sainte Anne Beach. In some ways Guadeloupe is like a Caribbean version of the French Riviera, with a better array of outdoor and adventure options. Sonne plutôt bien, n'est-ce pas?
