Jamaica Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 60%, Jamaica is in many ways more aligned with Africa than with the surrounding Caribbean region. When you arrive here you'll instantly recognize the strong African influences that seem to permeate through all levels of life - from the spicy cuisines, traditions, to the bold music that is a backdrop of everyday life. While this might come as a surprise to some, it offers an interesting contrast to other Caribbean islands. Unique and different equal cool experiences and Jamaica certainly has quite an arsenal. At the top of this list is the absolutely mandatory pilgrimage to the Bob Marley Museum, where you can learn everything that you've ever wanted to know about the world's most famous Reggae singer. Another great way to get in touch with the local Reggae scene is to take part in the annual Reggae Sumfest, where you can "groove to the beat" and enjoy the vibe that has made Jamaica legendary on the world's music scene. Then after loading up the iPod with your favorite tunes, you can find yourself a nice beach to relax on, with such offerings as Seven Mile Beach on Negril, and the incomparable Montego Bay. While on Negril make sure to see the soaring cliffs on the West End, which was a backdrop for the James Bond film Thunderball. Blue Hole Mineral Springs is a fantastic water resort nestled in the hills. YS Falls offers some picturesque waterfalls with plenty of picnic areas; but do not miss zip-lining over the falls. And Rocklands Bird Sanctuary will give you the opportunity to feed our tropical feathered friends by hand. If you're looking for something a bit out of the ordinary from your stock-standard Caribbean holiday, then Jamaica is "aaabsolutely peeerffffeeeect, mon!"
