Saint Barthélemy Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 46%, Saint Barthélemy is arguably the best place in all of the Caribbean to witness how "the other half" lives. For years, this idyllic French island has been the stomping ground of the rich and famous from all over the world - be it Hollywood stars, to European royalty - they all seem to show up here eventually. While this does provide the opportunity to play "spot the famous face", the island offers much, much more than the opportunity to snag an autograph. This is clearly proven out with a visit to the capital of Gustavia, which is set against a picturesque backdrop of beautiful beaches like Shell Beach, and towering mountains, where you can hike to the 3 forts that surround the city (Oscar, Karl and Gustav), and then shop till you drop through the extensive range of high-end boutiques that rival those found in Milan or Paris. However, for those of you who come here to get away from the urban jungle, there are still more than enough options outside of the capital to make you fall in love with this place. These include snorkeling in the half sunken dive crater of Ile Fourchue, or trying some kite surfing at Grand Cul-de-Sac, and then - as always in the Caribbean - it's easy to find a picture perfect beach to soak up some sun. Saint Barts - as the island is also known - can perhaps best be summed up as a 5-star playground that is more than happy to cater to those of us with 3-star tastes and a modest bank account - thank god for equal opportunity!
