Honduras Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 54%, Honduras is seemingly on a quest to leave the days of the "Banana Republic" behind and gain international legitimacy through a wave of rapid fire globalization. But regardless of this trend, which is centered mostly in the urbanized areas, the biggest attractions are still those offered by mother nature. Arguably, the most popular of these are the idyllic Bay Islands. Once a haven for pirates, today these island are known for their pristine dive sites, where you can learn to dive at an affordable price and then swim with the largest fish in the sea - the giant whale shark. A sight such as this will no doubt fuel the wildlife viewing fires with a quick jaunt to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed reserve of Rio Platano. Oh, and of course, as with many of its neighbors, Honduras also has its fair share of Mayan ruins, the best of which is without a doubt Copan. So, don't forget either the sunblock or the mosquito repellent, because you're going to end up needing them both as you explore the length and breadth of this amazing country.
