Be amazed by the immensity of Prague Castle, the biggest castle in the world, which is about 570 meters (~ 1870 ft) long and averages 130 meters (~ 427 ft) wide. Dating back to the 9th century, this vast structure has been home to Holy Roman Emperors, Kings of Bohemia, and Presidents; it is one of the most important cultural institutions in the Czech Republic. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it consists of a large-scale composition of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles. The Czech Crown Jewels are kept here and are one of the many treasures from history that draw PlanetHoppers! to its august halls and grounds. The castle includes the Basilica of St. George, St. Vitus Cathedral, the Royal Garden, several palaces and museums, including the National Gallery, Toy Museum, and a stunning picture gallery. The summer Summer Shakespeare Festival regularly takes place in the courtyard of Burgrave Palace, as well as concerts and jazz festivals in Lobkowicz Palace and St. George's Basilica. The ceremonial changing of the Castle Guard is must-see highlight, as is a stroll down the Golden Lane, where the famous writer Franz Kafka spent time in House No. 22. As the premier attraction of Prague, the castle simply cannot be missed. It will dominate the horizon and surely capture your imagination.
