Meander through the cobbled streets of Italy's Pompeii, a city utterly decimated by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. The eruption lasted for 2 days and buried the city in 5 meters (~ 18 ft) of volcanic ash, purging it from the minds of mankind for over 1700 years. The rediscovery of Pompeii in 1749 catapulted the city back into the world, where it is now one of Italy's most visited landmarks. Perhaps it is mankind's obsession with the macabre, or just an appetite for destruction, but any way you look at it, Pompeii is a must see for all PlanetHoppers!
