Take a snapshot of yourself standing in front of the NEWBORN Monument, an icon of Kosovo's hard-fought struggle for independence. While not recognized by all members of the UN, Kosovo has cemented itself as an independent state, something you'll immediately recognize in the pride with which the residents display the national flag from virtually every home and storefront in the city of Pristina. Perhaps the greatest symbol of this freedom is on display in the NEWBORN Monument (Obelisk), which spells out these very words and inaugurated Kosovo's independence in 2008. It's amazing how such a simple thing as national pride can make or break a destination and, in this case, it definitely makes Pristina a fascinating place to visit.
