Albania Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 40%, Albania can best be described as a country still making its introductions to the world. For many long years, during the Cold War, it was suppressed and hidden away behind the impenetrable Iron Curtain. Only recently has it finally been delivered into the light - whether the country is ready for this is open for debate. Despite a challenging exit out of the Curtain, Albania has started to develop its own unique personality and the word is now spreading that the country offers quite an array of options for PlanetHoppers! Amongst these are miles and miles of unspoilt beaches, where you can simply follow the coast for days and days, while enjoying the warm waters of the Adriatic Coast at a variety of small, undiscovered niches along the way. Of course, no one should pass up a visit to the hypnotic Blue Eye, a natural spring that can only be described as a geological oddity, which plunges to still unknown depths and offers perhaps the ultimate cave diving experience on the planet. But don't make the mistake of thinking that natural wonders are all that Albania has to offer. It also hosts some of the most classical, UNESCO-listed cities you could hope to find in Berat and Butrint. So, if you're looking for a place that's somewhat off the beaten track, but still close enough to mainstream Europe to visit without much trouble, then Albania is the place for you. Oh, and the added bonus is that it's still cheap as chips - at least for the moment.
