Romania Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 62%, Romania tends to bring to mind Dracula and vast stretches of impassible mountains that are home to creatures not wholly of this world. While the part about the mountains is true - to a degree with the Carpathians - the other part is more a result of fiction than reality. This image certainly isn't helped by arguably the country's most popular tourist attraction, Bran Castle, the ancestral home of Count Vlad the Impaler, the real-life inspiration for Count Dracula. While it's had to dispute the impact of such a destination, Romania does, in fact, have a lot more to offer than just Bran Castle. At the top of this list are the historic churches of Moldavia, Maramures and Transylvania. Romania also provides the backdrop for one of the world's classic journeys, the Transfagarasan Highway, which takes you through some of the most amazing mountain scenery in Eastern Europe as you travel between the historic cities of Sibiu and Piteti. Despite the country's harsh wilderness areas, the best part of any trip to Romania is simply getting to know the truth behind the legends. Overall, it's a warm, inviting place that wants PlanetHoppers! to know that it's not all about darkness and monsters!
