Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve
Stand amongst the array of colorful butterflies that come to Mexico's Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve each winter to escape the frigid weather further north. Scientists estimate that each year up to 1 billion butterflies make the journey here, which makes the fact that the area was only discovered in the 1970s, all the more amazing. Today the reserve is fully protected with a mission statement to not only protect the fly-in/fly-out visitors, but the very ecosystem as it represents mother nature at her spectacular best.
