Great Barrier Reef
Spend the day taking in the underwater wonders of Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the largest living structure in the world that can be viewed from space. The reef stretches for over 2,500 km (~ 1,500 miles) and is home to an enormous variety of underwater life. Regardless of whether you dive or snorkel, the reef is the perfect place to experience the amazing colors of this diverse environment. Tourism on the Great Barrier Reef is concentrated in the Whitsunday Islands and Cairns due to their accessibility. There are a range of options available from live aboard, to tours and cruises; and if you like to fish, a number of charters are available. Scuba diving and island day trips are some of the more common pastimes on the reef, along with scenic flights and rainforest tours to Kuranda and the Daintree Rainforest. After even the briefest of visits it's easy to see why this is considered to be one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.
