French Polynesia Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 60%, French Polynesia and the group of islands which make up this French territory is the benchmark for paradise on earth. Words like lush, beautiful, gorgeous, and breathtaking instantly come to mind when describing this place. Spread out over some 10.3 million sq km (4 million sq mi) of the Pacific, the 118 islands of French Polynesia lay claim to some of the most pristine landscapes, beaches, and waters found anywhere. Without a doubt Bora Bora and Tahiti are its two biggest draws. Surrounded by a lagoon and barrier reef, Bora Bora is the ultimate romantic getaway, where luxury resorts and over water bungalows dot the island like a string of pearls. If you can pull yourself away from the magnificent beaches – or your bungalow – take a trek through the lush tropical slopes of Mt. Otemanu that thrusts out the sparkling, turquoise lagoon. On Tahiti you will discover a lush mountainous interior, dotted with deep valleys, clear streams, and plunging waterfalls, surrounded by magnificent coral reefs. As the largest island in the chain, it is a bounty of riches. Journey to Fautaua Waterfall, one of the tallest in the world, where waters cascade over volcanic cliffs into a pool almost 300 meters (~ 1000 ft) below. Maraa Grotto features lush gardens and crystal-clear pools of black waters that create optical illusions. Point Venus is a scenic peninsula surrounded by black sand beach, and the landing site of the famous Captains Bligh and Cook. The capital of Papeete is a vibrant mix of shops, nightclubs, boutiques, spas, and fine dining. The island of Moorea is a Garden of Eden and home to hibiscus and birds of paradise. Rangiroa forms a necklace of luminous coral around an azure lagoon and is one the absolute best dive spots anywhere. We can go on, and on about the wonders of French Polynesia... But there is one guarantee. As soon as you step onto its shores, it will be love at first sight!
