Northern Mariana Islands Quick Travel Guide
With a travel rating of 44%, the Northern Mariana Islands are another affordable South Pacific paradise with lots of palm trees, turquoise water and white sands. It's been a popular hot spot for Japanese, but also draws PlanetHoppers from all over the world. Surround by water, this is a haven from every type of watersport under the sun, from jet skis to windsurfing, parasailing, to banana boats, and, of course, snorkeling and diving. More than 90% of the population lives on the main island of Saipan which lays claim to most great travel destinations that include Manhaga Island which is called the "pearl of Siapan" and home to terrific beaches and a snorkeler's paradise. Tenpan Lagoon has a number of thrilling WWII wrecks that can be explored. The Blue Grotto is one of the best cavern dives in the world. Banadero Cave opens a window to the past, where the Japanese hid during WWII. As the tallest peak on the island, Mount Trapocahu is the ultimate place to "boonie stomp" through verdant jungles to get to some great scenic views. Bird Island and Lookout are another great scenic point. History buffs will truly appreciate the American Memorial Park. Stretch your wings and explore the other two main islands in the chain, Tinian and Rota, which are peaceful alternatives to the more "touristy" Saipan. Explore more wrecks and reefs and protected lagoons. More beaches and flora and fauna. More opportunities to windsurf and parasail. All the elements of paradise can be found anywhere you turn when in the Northern Marina Islands.
