Follow the gaze of one of the 881 Moai statues that stand like lonely sentinels against the raging Pacific winds on Easter Island. Claimed to be the most remote inhabited island in the world, Easter Island lies some 3,500 km (~ 2,200 miles) west of Chile in the Pacific Ocean. While the island has sustained quite a violent history of internal struggle through the years, today it provides PlanetHoppers! with one of those special gems that are becoming more and more rare - something off the beaten track. A visit here may be a little difficult, but it's more than worth the effort.
